The Truth Behind the Death of 6-Year-Old Fatma El Muhammed
Contrary to initial reports, 6-year-old Fatma El Muhammed—a Syrian child whose body was discovered near her home in Ankara last week—did not die as a result of a dog attack, but as the victim of a brutal act of abuse.
Immediately after the news broke, nearly all media outlets released identical statements claiming Fatma had been killed by stray dogs. These reports, spread without verification or official documentation, sparked widespread panic and led to violent "dog hunts" across the country.
Fatma’s father, İbrahim El Muhammed, who works in a furniture store, firmly rejected the narrative of a dog attack. “First they found her coat, and later they found her body mutilated,” he said, insisting that the truth had been distorted.
On March 27, 2025, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, a Member of Parliament for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) representing Kocaeli, made a powerful statement in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. He revealed that Fatma was not attacked by dogs, but was sexually assaulted and then murdered by a neighbor who subsequently buried her body.
Gergerlioğlu also expressed deep concern over the media's role in spreading misinformation and criticized the public's indifference to the horrific truth behind Fatma’s death. “This child was brutally murdered,” he said, “yet her case was buried under a fabricated narrative, and society chose to look away.”
