About
Kont
Was Kont a lucky dog—or an unlucky one?
That’s for you to decide. All I can do is tell his story, as I witnessed it.
Kont’s early life unfolded on the streets of Bursa. It was a hard life—marked by hunger, danger, and loneliness. And yet, every so often, a kind hand would reach out to pat his head or share a scrap of food. He was barely two years old, just leaving behind his puppyhood. But to most, he was already invisible—just another stray on the streets. They couldn’t see the depth in his eyes, the gentleness in his soul.
Then came August 2024, and everything changed. The so-called “massacre law” was passed, unleashing a wave of brutality against Turkey’s strays. Kont, who had never harmed anyone, was reported simply for existing. The municipality came with their cruel catchpoles. His throat bled as they dragged him away. He trembled with fear.
They took him to the Osmangazi municipal shelter—a place that should have been a refuge but was instead a house of horrors. No food. No water. Just the screams of animals being beaten, tortured, and killed in the most inhumane ways imaginable. This was no euthanasia. This was poison poured directly into their hearts. Some died in agony after hours of suffering, coughing up blood, crying in pain.
Kont was days—perhaps hours—away from meeting the same fate. But fate had something else in store.
Just before it was too late, local rescuers managed to get him out on behalf of us. He was one of the very few who made it out alive. When we saw him step out of that place, we cried. It felt like witnessing a soul reborn.
Now, it’s time for a new chapter. Kont is safe, but he still needs one more miracle: a home.
He’s a sweet, gentle, affectionate dog. He gets along wonderfully with people and other dogs. After all he's been through, he still chooses love.
So, was Kont lucky?
You’ll be the one to decide that—by giving him the life he’s always deserved.
